During WinterWonderful December 2014, Phillip and Patricia Frost made the surprise announcement that they would give a one million dollar endowment to name the MusicReach program after former University of Miami President Donna Shalala.  MusicReach is also funded by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust and Canon.  Private donors include Dr. Arthur and Lynda Gordon, Patti and Allan Herbert, Paige and Lou Adler, Liliam and Gus Machado, and Joe and Janet Shein.

MusicReach relies on the generosity of our funders.  In order to provide a high quality music education program for many of the most deserving children and youth in South Florida, funds are needed to support undergraduate scholarships, graduate student teaching assistant stipends, as well as the purchase of musical instruments and supplies.

Scholarship Information

  • Undergraduate mentoring scholarships- $5,000
  • Masters teaching assistant stipend- $10,000
  • Doctoral teaching assistant stipend- $12,000

Instrument Drive Information

Thanks to a generous gift from Martin (Marty) Messinger, the Frost School of Music has initiated an instrument fundraising drive for the mentoring program MusicReach. The campaign’s goal is to raise much-needed funds for the purchase of new instruments, to revitalize band and orchestra programs in at-risk neighborhoods and schools in Miami-Dade.

For information on how to support the Shalala MusicReach Program, please contact Lynne Gibson at lgibson@miami.edu or 305-284-2238.

MusicReach is funded in part by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, and The Children’s Trust. The Children's Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County by making strategic investments in their future.
