MusicReach Mentor and Child MusicReach Mentor and Child

Thanks to a generous gift from Martin (Marty) Messinger, the Frost School of Music has initiated an instrument fundraising drive for the mentoring program MusicReach. The campaign’s goal is to raise much-needed funds for the purchase of new instruments, to revitalize band and orchestra programs in at-risk neighborhoods and schools in Miami-Dade.

The Donna E. Shalala MusicReach Mentorship Program uses music as a motivating tool to provide children and teens in the Miami-Dade County with positive life choices and a gateway for higher education.

The following gifts would provide young students the opportunity to receive proper training on quality instruments.  Research suggests that without access to a quality instrument, many students become frustrated and quit due to poor sound quality and other possible technical issues.

Our goal is to raise the funds to purchase 30 new band, and 20 new string instruments. Below are the prices per instrument:

  • 8 Violin's ($220 each)
  • 6 Viola's ($220 each)
  • 5 Cello's ($480 each)
  • 1 Bass ($900)
  • 5 Flute's  ($365 each)
  • 5 Clarinet's ($805 each)
  • 5 Trumpet's ($500 each)
  • 5 Trombone's ($500 each)
  • 1 Percussion Kit ($450)
  • 5 Saxophone's ($1,250 each)
  • 1 Baritone ($1,295)
  • 1 Oboe ($1,575)
  • 1 Bassoon ($2,125)
  • 1 French Horn ($2,925)
