Virtual Learning

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the Shalala MusicReach program at the Frost School of Music has established several online programs for Miami-Dade middle and high school students. The programs include the Music Technology Club and Songwriting Class. These programs allow participants to express themselves through music and song creation.

In the Music Tech club, students learn how to create music using Digital Audio Workstations and web audio applications. Students learn about audio recording and editing, manipulating and recording MIDI data, how to use virtual instruments, and other audio topics. The class focuses on creating original songs, remixes and covers of other songs, and developing their understanding of digital music creation. The Songwriting Class is an introductory course for all things songwriting. In this course, participants learn the basics of song structure, lyric writing, rhyme, melody creation, and so much more! These classes take place on Saturdays and Sundays during the UM academic year.
